We Wish We All Could Be California Girls…

Since I was such a blogging derelict during my West Coast jaunt, I figure I owed it to my darlin’ readers to have total word diarrhea about the sartorial aspects of my trip.

Hmmm…doesn’t that sound pretty?

Don’t worry, BaySiders…I have a special SanFran post already lined up, so for now, let’s slip on our Vans, crank up the No Doubt and head down to SoCal.

When I first arrived to Cali, dressed in the East Coast uniform of all-black and tall boots, I felt about as “West Siiiide” as the frickin’ Statue of Liberty. But as that warm Cali sunshine poured over my skin and I started takin’ cues from the many fashionistas strolling down Robertson Blvd, I put down my torch and realized that I could get into this whole West Coast thing-a-ling. (Too early for another Chiny reference? Eeek, sorry, y’all!)

The women were hip and trendy, but their looks gave major nods to their own personalities. Denim was the (obvi) fabric of choice, while layers of tissue tees and drapey cardigans comprised the tops. Chanel and Louis bags made an appearance on most, but they were worn with such nonchalance that it allowed you to forget for at least a moment the disgusting “in-ness” of designer totes.

SoCal faves Rainbows and UGGS were inescapable, but so were more sophisticated platform pumps and flat leather boots. Hell, I was even quasi-stalking this precious brunette girl dressed in dark skinnies and sleek black pumps. That sounds like a beautiful meeting of the coasts to me!

One of my favorite quintessential-Cali looks was a woman dressed in cuffed jeans, a pink tee and matching pink Converse. Now before you barf all over everything and swear off this blog like the plague, lemme finish. Due to the cold-ish temp, she was wearing a camel-colored faux fur jacket with a black sequined bow on the front. Rather than the pink and bows and fur making her look like a “My-Size Barbie,” she looked spunky and confident in this super-fem style.

Maybe I’m still drunk off of that Cali Cool-Aid, but there truly is something about the style of the West. Perhaps that’s why Cameron D, Jen Aniston and Anaheim’s sweetheart Gwen Stefani seem to just walk around in a cloud of impeccable, yet effortless  style.

Hmmm…maybe those Beach Boys were on to something…
