I used to never wear watches. My thought process was “Why waste perfectly good arm space on some boring piece of practicality?” Cher Horowitz, much?
O, but was I wrong! A chic watch can be just as gaudy-glam as a chunky bracelet. And over the past couple years, I have realized the error of my previous life. So, as summer winds down, and it’s almost time for the awesomeness of Autumn, grab yourself a stylish timepiece. Because nothing says “I am so don’t give a (bleep) chic” like it.
My preferred style is silver or gold links with an oversized face. To achieve this chunky, but never clunky look, I turn to either men’s versions or designers that specialize in the “boyfriend” look. And that bracelet/watch hybrid where you have to open a cat/dog/bird charm to get the time is not only hideo, but also so juvenile. So save yourself the time and moo-la and just swing by The Disney Store for a Snow White or Mulan version. Whoo-I just had to get that off my chest!
Now, for some of my Mimi likeys:
Michael Kors Of course the King of modern American sportswear also reigns supreme in the world of super-stylish watches. He uses neutral materials like tortoiseshell, gold and silver that are classic-chic, but never boring. The shapes are modern, but bring to mind a Northeastern preppiness. Ya know, that girl from college who could pull off the J.Crew, Longchamp and driving loafers look without looking like a Gossip Girl extra. I am pining for the “Jet Set Sport” watch in this so haute horn.

Juicy Couture Keeping with their quirky Cali-girl motif, the ladies of Juicy have created a line of watches that are not just time, but also conversation pieces. Some faces are splattered with their logo, while others bow down to their mascot Scottie. Pink is as neutral as white or black, and “diamonds” seem to cover anything that can’t move. I recommend JC for those of you who want to have fun each and every minute. My fave look from Pam&Gela is the “Fairy Tale” watch with its mother-of-pearl dial and sexy croc-embossed strap. And what girl can resist any story that ends with a big diamond?

Michele Now, I love MOBama as much as the next gal, but when it comes to the watch game, there’s a different Michele running things. You don’t know jack about the luxury of time until you’ve perused the mouth-watering variety of Michele styles. Standard to each model are a bevy of diamonds, bracelet-worthy straps and the distinct Michelle face. With seven different categories and endless possibilities for color and shape, its nearly impossible to pick my fave. But if I was forced to choose (uh, yeah right), I would go Deco. The Deco Diamond with Plum Leather pretty much purs Park Ave Posh with each little tick. Santa, are you listening?

Betsey Johnson For the true Wild Child who doesn’t care if its 12 noon or 12 midnight, BJ is your watch lady! She infuses classic Betsey themes like hearts, stars, and leopard print into each of these tantalizing tickers. I know I shuddered earlier at a bracelet-y watch, but with Ms. Johnson it’s less toddler and more 2-for-1. Oversized roses and bows hide timefaces for a funky peek-a-boo look. Talk about a cheeky clock ;)! Betsey’s Best is a style that I own- a big white bow with girly polka-dots and a thin, leather strap. It’s feminine, but not frou-frou. If your days need more cartwheels, a la BJ’s signature runway finale, go get one of these adorable timetellers now!

Well in the words of Alice’s pal, the White Rabbit, “You’re late, You’re late, You’re late! For a watch-shopping date!” Till next time, HighEnders!
