SHOW Me What You Got NYFW ’09 Part 1

I have a thing for stream of consciousness writing. There is something so random and honest about one thought begetting another.  So my reviews of Fall Fashion Week will be a sneak-peek into Mimi’s mad stylista mind accompanied by images of the most fawn-worth fashions.

Here we go, HighEnders!

Monique Lhuillier

monique

  • “Orange You Fancy”-  Perfect pops of saffron, tangerine and deep salmon
  • “I wanna be next to you…Black&Gold, Black&Gold”- Sam Sparrow was on to something with this color-combo. Absolutely ToDieFor chic
  • “Holy Fedora!”- Love the mad mix of casual and dressy. Epitomizes schizophrenia of September: remnants of Summer crashing into the beginnings of Fall
  • “Bow Down”- As a reformed girly-girl, I’m a sucker for bow details on wool (?) suit and coat. Tres Chanel chic
  • “Strap Me In”- Obsessed with those chunky black platforms. A dose of edge for otherwise ladylike looks.
  • “Animal Instincts”- Leopard print is my religion. That is all.
  • “Red-Carpet Ready”- Black tiered dress with gold sequined top is an Oscars-worthy showstopper. Halle?
  • “The Dark Side”- Super-sooty eye and dark nails are the perfect “screw you” to traditional Spring make-up

Final Review: Lhuillier proves there’s more to her little needle than wedding gown. She produces a feminine collection that is short on frou-frou and long on fab. Merci, Monique!

Jen Kao

  • “Who’s That Lady?”- Jen Kao? Never heard of- oooo, I’m digging slide 1…and 2, 3, 4&5. Let’s continue :)
  • “Skinny Mini”- Can never get enough of showing off the legs! Remember this?
  • “(No)Cold Feet”- Funky, furry shoes give a little “kick” to Kao’s minimal accessories
  • “Long&Short of Things”- Love the balance of long sleeves and uber-short hemline. Very 80s-chic
  • “Got a Ciggy?”- Super-skinny trousers continue their reign as fashionistas’ preferred pant. Need that skinny white suit STAT!
  • “Look, Ma- no pants!”- Kao’s blazer-style dress/top is a pantless-look I can deal with. More gorgeous less, Gaga
  • “Grey Gardens”- The neutral hue is nothing but boring as it jumps from piece to piece of Kao’s collection. I am totally crazy for the grey suede mini and sheer collared top.

Final Review- Surprisingly smitten with this Fashion Week newcomer! Intriguing show that’s not “too cool” for its own good. Can’t wait to see more from this LA-born, Kansas City-raised (huh?) designer.

Prabal Gurung

prabal

  • “Bow-zo”- The bow adornments are so dramatic and over-the-top that they’re cutting edge rather than clownish
  • “Fancy Pants”- Adore the satin pants with ankle ties. Would love to rock those with simple tank and sleek suede pumps. Reminiscent of D&G boudoir suit
  • “Dance the Polka”- That polka-dot dress took my breath away. Simple. Classic. But modern with the belt. Give me your craziest shoe to pair with this fun frock
  • “Doesn’t matter if your BlackorWhite”- No-frills color palette that is never boring due to re-working of shapes and prints. Would do anything for the one-shoulder feathered dress.
  • “Blues’ Clues”- Though I was a little apprehensive about cobalt again, Prabal’s is pitch-perfect. He works it in so subtly that it almost becomes a neutral.

Final Review- Beautiful wearable pieces that were made for the more ladylike fashionista. Could see these designs on anyone from Posh Spice to Eva Mendes.

Hope you enjoyed the reviews! Check back for more- fun in the BigApple has just begun ;)
