Where Troubles Melt Like Lemondrops

Despite a full Monday of doing ab.so.lute.ly nothing, I was deep in a nap at 7:50pm. Then something suddenly  stirred me, screaming…“Wake up, Mimi!” I gained (quasi)consciousness right in time to snatch my laptop and dial up the  live stream of Marc Jacobs’ AW ’10 show.

At approximately 7:57, a super official voice announced for people to take their seats. Then, voila, Mr. Jacobs himself appreared, ripping down mega sheets of brown paper to reveal a box brimming with  models- like a sartorial edition for Crayola. But the fashion that ensued was anything but child’s play. As if in a holy communion line, the ladies exited the box and strutted down the maze of a runway, displaying neutral hues, simple shapes and a new era in Marc history. There were some definite luxe moments- piles of furry extras, squeal-inducing sparkle and textures that had me stroking my computer screen.

A sort of unexpected fashion amalgamation, the show was like watching the minimalism of CK collide (beautifully) into the thrill and wonder of traditional MJ. The shin-grazing A-line hems, embellished handbags and elbow-length gloves offered a dash of ’50s lady luxe, evoking images of Audrey or Grace Kelly… even something a bit Hitchcock-y. But the draping and textures and that dazzling fur-collared raincoat brought the ingenuity of 2010 design. I swear I nearly passed out when the gowns started. The printed ombre sequined gown was exactly as it sounds- too much, but in the most wonderful way possible!

And did I mention “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” floating in the air? Not to get all “young girl with her fashion aspirations” on ya, but something about that timeless tune playing amidst those amazing designs made me want to move to NY tonight and make my dreams a reality tonight. Despite the practicality of greys, browns, blacks and whites in the most wearable silhouettes, MJ’s show evoked something very surreal. Like fashion in its’ purest form.

O, Marc, why so genius?

*thank you fashionista for uploading pics lickity-split for all of us who weren’t so lucky to witness Marc Magic in person*
