FAB(more than)FIVE

I figured it’s the holiday season, so I’m gonna post five fab things now and then five more in like two days, rather than the standard few. “standard” meaning the once in a blue moon when i get around to blogging anything fab. believe me, the list is always racing through my mind- it literally just takes the strength of 1000 men to actually get it any farther than that.

well, n.e.ways, happy early holidays…and here goes my first cinque.

  • Christmas candles: I’m not talking that cinammony, sugar plum fairy stuff. No sir, I mean the delicious scent of a fresh pine tree…in wax form. It doesn’t have to be some fancy-pants brand. Glade is definitely making my home seasonally scent-y- all for $2.50 a pop! But I must say Jonathan Adler’s Aspen candle is absolutely to die for- like literally smell and perish.
  • Lady Shades: I am as faux hipster as any other 20-something around, but I have recently shunned all uber-cool sunglasses. My poor Wayfarers didn’t see it coming, and don’t even get me started on my aviators’ attitude! Something about my oversized Jackie-esque Marc Jacobs’ have been the perfect addition to every piece in my fall wardrobe. And I have a pair of bone-colored Bebe shades whose glory days have come again! These House of Harlow babies are some stunner sunners ;)
  • NittyGritty: I love to cook blahblahblah…you already know that…but I rocked my own damn world when I made an impromptu meal of shrimp over parmasean grits and kale. This is not hard, I swear, but you gotta know how to make grits like a Southerner aka save your runny Yankee bull$hit. Creammmmmy grits with lots of butter and milk and just a pinch of parm is what sets this combo off. I was inspired by this dish at Chicago’s The Gage, but made a few variations of my own, so make like Mimi and make this delta staple the background for a load of fun holiday meals!
  • Dub-ble Time: I have no idea what Dubstep is, but I have a lot of ideas about how much I love James Blake, Dub’s reigning king. He is weirdly soulful and just weirdly wonderful. James Blake, his self-titled album, has literally been in my rotation for months- I mean if “The Wilhelm Scream” doesn’t grab your soul, you aint got one. And his cover of “Limit to Your Love” is the hit that started this love affair. I’m serious, either love him or leave me alone.
  • Late is Great: Liz from Late Afternoon is amazing- literally blows my mind every time I check her personal style blog…which isn’t every 10 minutes or anything creepy like that. My roommate alternates between calling her the White Mimi and the White Nini, so I’ve been feelin’ myself harrrrdddd the past few weeks. No seriously, the short-shortness and overloaded with accessories and randomly coordinated looks is what I aim for every.single.day. and Liz is my new leader.
