play on playa

i have been groovinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng lately.

 i’ll just look up and i realize that i’ve two-stepped my way from the bedroom to the kitchen. i love it- here’s what i’m listening to this month.

  1. i’m late on kendrick and still a little unsure but i know i love “poetic justice.”
  2. it’s been a year and i still love no doubt’s “new” cd. “heaven” is such a fun ode to gwen and gavin’s non-stop love. “if i forget, will you remind me? if i escape, will you come find me?”
  3. i went to dc a few weekends ago and lost my damn wale mind. “lovehate thing” takes me back to a time when martin was primetime tv and 2Pac and Biggie were on the radio.
  4. “bad” is just so good. the bedsqueak is old-school perfection and the lyrics hit hard on our generation’s multitude of relationship issues.
  5. gabby bernstein is my girrrrrrrl- y’all already know this. well, she used james vincent mcmorrow’s slowed-down version of the 90’s classic “higher love” for a guided meditation and whoooo…i went up there.
  6. flo just gets the struggle. “falling” really brings that home for me. “fell in your opinion when i fell in love with you.” {insert big-eyed emoticon}
  7. after charlie wilson’s house BET Awards performance, i cannot get enough of this smooth fox. nothing screams black love like this classic gap band jam.
  8. i am just plain ol’ sick of miguel’s ass dragging me in song after song. i had just recovered from “use me” when i was infected with “how many drinks…” that opening falsetto is just too damn much.
  9. i never thought i would say this but i am obsessed with lana del rey. she is just pure imagery- in a dare i say, stevie nicks way. gasppp, i know. “body electric” is my latest gem. i mean, the line, “clinton is my daddy, monica’s my mother, diamonds are my bestest friend.”
  10. i have been on some serious old school bad boy shit. i blame youtube, but no opening line compares to “now what the hell is you looking for?” ma$e, welcome back.
