I have such a love/hate relationship with Versace. Sometimes the lionshead excites me, other times it can only elicit an eyeroll.
Well, over the past few runway seasons Donatella has expertly wrangled in the gaudiness of the Versace life to a few dozen looks that are feminine and ultra-sexy but still high-concept. Rather than a collection being based on gold and sex and flash alone, it showcases an actual storyline that simply incorporates those V-signature elements.
Last fall it was all about the re-incarnation of Stevie Nicks (dyinnngggg) and the 2014 Fall collection is the Versace girl in the workforce. The panstuit looks are 70s-inspired but still fresh with their bottoms and scarf-like necklaces. And those little asymmetrical dresses with the classic Versace hardware are desk to dinner if ever there was. I am usually appalled by cornflower blue but Donatella’s seeming clash of the hue with bold red is so tacky its chic. I love the subtle usage of fur (relative to other F/14 runways) and am DEAD on the ground from those over-the-knee boots.
Ok, DV, we’re at love. For now. Full collection at Fashion Gone Rogue.
