i once had someone tell me that i run my mouth too much. especially to strangers. well a few weeks ago, that talking got me a free shoe shine and probably the highlight of my week.
i saw the sign as i was walking from LGA security- boots: $3.50.
he had me at the first line: “thank you, sir, but i have a new customer who is far more beautiful than you.” SOLD to the lady in the vintage sweater and miniskirt.his name was john, and he’s been in terminal B/D gates for two decades. as john buffed my run-down boots and told me about his wife and daughter and my gorgeous smile, i was grinning and giggling so hard people were literally staring from a few gates away. he threatened to call security when i reached for my wallet. then he told me with absolute assuredness that something big was headed my way. i couldn’t help but to believe him.
the whole thing was just this precious moment between strangers, and now more than ever i refuse to keep this mouth shut.
