i recently told my best friend that our patterns are the things we do regularly, for better or worse.
although i am the queen of FREEDOM, morning rituals are my most sacred.
during my time in nyc, i got so into am fitness that it shocked me into being a maniac in the morning. there are days where i have run 2 miles, gone for a swim, done laundry, sent emails, quick mani, made matcha and green juice all before 8:59 am.
the simultaneous chaos and slowdown of the pandemic forced me to re-evaluate my mornings. what was pivotal to the entire operation? which parts were making me crazier?
here’s where i have landed:
- meditation in bed as soon as i wake up, with either the Calm app or Gabby Bernstein (my guru!). it doesn’t matter if i’m still half-asleep, those 10 minutes completely ground my day.
- whether i’m going on a fast/furious run or doing a Melissa Wood Health workout, if i don’t get going right out of bed it gets kicked down the road. “later, later, later…NOW!”
- i start many days with a fresh green juice (celery, spinach, cuc, apple, lemon + ginger). my go-to juicer, which is great for a beginner. anything but coffee as my first drink, but it just never gets any easier to not guzzle nespresso as soon as i open my eyes.
- skincare is a close second to the meditation in the process. i’ve become a nut for alcohol-free toner + morrocan oil ahead of my sunscreen. call somebody else about oil before spf, bc idc! i wholeheartedly believe that you do what works for you, not the internet.
- what does “getting ready” even mean anymore? when i do have meetings and have to get out the door, i shower in 30 seconds, pop on something with a zipper, blazer and a scarf and make do with eyebrows, blush and mascara. intermix has been my inspo basically since birth!
who needs laundry before coffee anyway? xx
p.s. what are you up to before 10 am?
