i haven’t read all that much lately, but what i have has been fab!
my top page-turners since march:
- girl, woman, other by bernardine evaristo– lush, lovely, brimming with gorgeous stories of women and everything in between.
- heating and cooling by beth ann fennelly– quick-witted is an understatement. it reads in < 60 min and will have you guffawing in places.
- the travelers by regina porter- so many overlapping stories of Black family, it made me ache for my grandparents and great aunts and uncles and parents and sister and cousins and so on… porter intersperses white relatives into the story but for once, they are the costars, the onlookers into the richness of the Black familial experience.
- golden girl by elin hilderbrand– not my fave EH, but the characters leap off the page and it spurred many many in-air tears, which is standard fare for one of my fave authors.
- milk and honey by rupi kaur– a piercing rally cry for women to choose themselves again and again. the heartbreak section was just a bit overdrawn, but i guess it’s just like fucking heartbreak. overstaying its welcome.
look at me, devouring reads by some of the best girls in the game! xx
