spring equinox

these NYFW street shots by darrel hunter are the perfect little spring tease. but i must confess, i used to think spring was so corny.

like, too much pastel, and too flowery, too in-between. it reminded me of a constant refrain at macy’s market appointments, “…but does it have a reason to be?”

as a lover of juxtaposition, i was hardcore on summer’s chaos and winter’s edge. they are each so demonstrative about what they offer- a clear P.O.V.

then, i bought a home and witnessed the literal transformation of the earth from jan to march- and like a huge cornball- was in awe of the not quite-ness of this sweet season. it is both obvious when spring is upon us, and yet so ephemeral. freezing on monday morning, gloriously warm by tuesday evening. a slowdown after the holidays, but also a quiet awakening from the winter.

i have come around swiftly, and now revel in the first daffodil in my yard and nearly pass out with excitement at the sight of budding crimson tulips on my neighborhood walk.

in retrospect, spring is the most hardcore because it gets to be everything all at once.

she tells us that despite what jan/feb/life throws at us, we will make it back- a real fine reason to be.
