gad about town, part i.

i have had a hyper local few weeks in memphis.

whether it’s a walk in my neighborhood, a cocktail at a favorite restaurant or the perfect birthday card from that one boutique- my go-to is to go small.

my top memphis destinations (this week) for whatever you need!

  • Menage is my greeting card holy grail with some of the highest-quality gift-wrapping a person will experience. the gifting options used to be a bit more robust, but i really can’t trust my card-buying to anyone else. They even have a punch card!
  • Art Bar or Beauty Shop for a post-work day cocktail and snack. I got a very delicious old fashioned on a Thursday night @ Art Bar and a divine mezcal/tequila soda @ BS the previous day. By all means, sit at the actual bar if you can.
  • When I need a little pick me up for me or someone special, I take a turn through Stovall, a stationary gem! I always leave with a perfume, candle, custom cocktail napkin order (!) or “Good Morning Memphis” cups that I really need. It was my happy place when I wasn’t in Memphis, but desperately needing to be.
  • The Art Project is a totally adorable, art free-play studio for mini creatives. We took my nephew, and he went wild with paint, coloring and obvi magna-tiles. I picked up a gift certificate for a joint kids’ birthday party, because “no new toys in the house” is every parent’s dream!
  • Hustle & Dough is the secret coffee cult to which my cousins and I loyally belong. “H&D on Thursday am? 9?” is all it takes to be halfway to a vanilla iced latte and a little gab on one of the Chesterfields.
  • I am so not a candy person, but one trip to Dinstuhl’s Fine Candies on Valentine’s Day was all it took to get me hook, line and sinker. No/all pun intended, it was the sweetest scene. They are most well-known for their chocolates, but I have been rationing out a bag of sour gummy lips like it’s caviar!
  • CycleBar is a national franchise, but I would bet my life that no one is spinning up a fucking storm like Lara Scott here in Memphis. Her playlists are epic (90’s Grunge tribute this week!), combinations are heart-pounding, but it is her sassy and sweet attitude that keeps me going on/off the bike. I don’t do many hardcore sweaty workouts anymore, but I will never give up CB x LS.
  • Half trip-a-roni/half veggie supreme from Memphis Pizza Cafe is all I have thought about for the past approx 9 days. It is the perfect balance of meaty/cheesy + veggie-loaded with a perfect thin crust. I have an entirely new pizza personality.
  • The incredibly adorable and chic 901 bandana in my pic is by my gal Whitney @pile.of.threads. She is basically the embroider laureate for the city!

Like any hometown girl, I love my city- flaws and all. Get out and go local, y’all xx
