i developed a pretty locked-in skincare routine about 10 years ago that is straightforward, not overly trendy but still open to new products, brands and innovations. my medicine cabinet bursting with skin shit would beg to differ on “straightforward,” but i write this blog!
in short, my few beauty tenants are demonstrate serial killer discipline, moisturize like mad, buy in bulk and stay off tik tok. easy peasy.
there are a handful of items that have morphed into my super heroes, and as the kiddies say- no gatekeeping. wtf does that really even mean?
- la roche posay cleansers are gentle, effective and HUGE. lrp has been in my medicine cabinet across multiple cities and varying levels of bathroom quality (obvi nyc is dead last). here & here for double cleanse. i read a recommendation to massage your cream cleanser in for a full 30-60 seconds before applying water- genius!
- weleda skin food- dat MF girl. i have annoyingly sensitive lips so about every 3-4 weeks, i’m reacting to something from this list and slathering my mouth in weleda. multiple formulas and product types, but the original kelly green tube is my babe.
- the ordinary, tragic co-founder drama aside, has been a staple in my regime basically since they launched. two very important items among the ordinary army in my possession- (1) all of the oils, but especially the squalane and the argan oils to slather over anything standing still; (2) the brow and lash serum may be placebo, but i see the results so it’s real to me. perhaps my eyelashes are just expressing themselves more fully!
- this is shocking to me, but i am obsessed with the necessaire exfoliating scrub. so many influencers yapping about the brand turned me off, but i fell hard for the scrub and actually bought my own.
- neutrogena rainbath + oil in the 30 oz + size. tell ben and j.lo this is the hollywood duo i’m riding for!
- very likely the most annoying thing i’m going to say, but drinking tons of water is a gamechanger. i thought i knew, but after almost internally drowning myself during my covid recovery, my skin was on point. why does water have to be such a know-it-all?
- soltan spf in whatever formula/spf available to me! this little uk babydoll was introduced to me during a feb 2022 miami trip with my bff based in scotland and i have literally replaced my entire sunscreen collection. she’s british, bitch!
who are your heroes? xx
