Like so many elder millennials, I have been rocking with J.Crew for a realllllly long time. My first purchase was in the 8th grade from Memphis’ local JC— a burgundy wrap dress with flirty cap sleeves and the greatest combo of knit and viscose. Hand to God, that dress is still hanging in my closet 20 years later! I don’t wear it anymore, but it is such a precious reminder of my first foray into the power of retail.

Throughout the early 2000’s, J.Crew under Mickey D. and Jenna was unstoppable. That duo created a truly high fashion experience at everyone’s local American mall. And the catalog game? It gives me chills to think about now. I have 2008-2013 treasures that I proudly still pull on, and often.

J.Crew is currently experiencing a renaissance due to an overt recommitment to Styling x Quality. At various points post MD/JL, they have had one or the other, and during an especially tragic moment ca. 2018-2021, honestly had neither. 

In honor of middle school Mimi and her insight into the power of the perfect shop, I am sharing my current JC faves. I can’t vouch for the quality yet— like all good things, that will reveal itself in due time. But the styling under the can’t-stop-watching-her Olympia Gayot is catapulting me back into the glory and joy of 2009!

My JC picks for now and the next 20+ years:

• This boot with EVERYTHING in EVERYONE’S closet! Overboard? Maybe, maybe not!
• I am obsessed with a blue/white stripe that’s giving you just a bit more. The subtle shimmer of crystals makes this perfect for dressing down a formal occasion (my fave!) P.S. for all who celebrate RHONY reboot, very very much JL cutting tomatoes in diamonds in the Hamptons!
• The faux patent leather via this coat (the color!) or these pants is just v. good.
• We know Mimi is a Mini Ambassador but this maxi tuxedo skirt is giving me feels— would love paired with a cropped sweater, high ponytail and J.Fisher hoops.
• One category JC has remained strong in is sweaters— and the stripe, slouch, turtle of this cashmere baby is perfect! I would wear with every item previously mentioned.

To quote Tyra Banks, “JC, I am rooting for you. We are all rooting for you!” Xx
