i have such an extreme love-hate relationship with jan/the entire winter. there is such a nice coziness and slowdown to the season, especially on the heels of an always overstimulating fall.
(big) however, the fucking weather.
like that could be the whole post. the. fucking. weather.
when i tell you i loathe temps below 30 degrees, that is a vast underestimate. i hate it on a cellular level. maybe it is the ptsd from my 2021-2022 stint in the midwest, but i simply cannot handle long stretches of cold.
ever the optimist, i have worked diligently to find a workaround, any little bright light when we are staring down days of single digit temps.
my steadfast remedy is the bath, and i want to share my recipe with you!
- very very hot water– like to the point where you have to take a beat before you fully immerse
- your body weight in epsom salts– dr. teals version is equal parts reliable and affordable, so you won’t feel indulgent dumping said bodyweight per bath time. my fave scent here.
- it is important to set aside baseline 90 minutes for a truly epic soak– bring your phone, your ipad, a cocktail, water. this is the everything bath.
- i newly discovered that a face mist helps to relieve bathtime hot flashes. i keep a bottle of evian mist and it just feels very cher horowitz.
- a bath pillow is a non-negotiable. any plush one you can find on amazon, target. like the epsom salts, you don’t have to overindulge here.
- classical music is a supreme soaking soundtrack because it is just ambient and soothing.
it’s not rocket science, but let’s commit to these little moments of indulgence (seLF-cArE) and just get to the other side of march. Xx
