black girl

It should be no surprise that I am the proud owner of many excellent black pieces— from clothes to accessories to outerwear, my closet is brimming with heavy hitters in all shades of the world’s most perfect hue.

I used to wear all-black kinda all the time, and I’m ready to return to that. At least, kinda. And what better time than the first few weeks of spring?

The key to making the dark hue work for warmer months is to vary the textures and lengths and fabrics, so the outfit is layered and interesting, not heavy.

Obvi, I love a black mini with just about anything, but in concert with a slim sheer black knit. We’re in Heaven!

Let’s re-consider inky leather for these early days of chilly mornings and warmer afternoons. Remember when I paired my white Irish lace nightgown with a black leather jacket for dinner? Be prepared for that duo to be resurrected in April. Also, don’t put your leather pants away until the temps are good and 80 degrees. You will have the basis for a look that is irreverent and despite the dark hue, a little playful.

For Easter Sunday, I pulled out a black, strapless maxi dress in the chicest crepe and literally morphed into GP ca. Sliding Doors. There was something so rebellious about hosting spring’s most important holiday without a pastel in sight!

Black for spring? Groundbreaking!

Some noir looks I am loving recently + some picks for pieces to add to your list.

The best from this photo dump/my NYC packing visual– Aurora James in all black + diamonds/pearls, Sienna Miller showing that she is that boho girl for Celine PFW, obsessed with Gigi’s leather maxi skirt and her all-black flares look, Nicole Kidman is just fucking going for it and we love it, GP doing GP things in black sheer and leather, and finally Jasmine Tookes and Anne Hathaway each continuing to be the blueprint in their own It Girl ways.

My favorite sources for black knits are here or here. You don’t have to blow your budget on good black leather by being resourceful with local thrift or vintage shops! In the past year, I have grown to love Cos‘ straightforward, 90’s-esque offerings. Finally, if one were looking to blow said budget, Gucci does black so well– I am madly in love with these SCBABT slings.

Black Girl, I love you! Xx
