My plates have officially moved.

Don’t worry– for once, this is not a woo-woo declaration about me having a spring awakening and making some grand shift.

Emphasis on for once!

Y’all, on the final day of April 2024– I, the reigning Queen of The House of Miniskirts, bought a maxi! As in, my knees are covered, and my thighs and the back of my legs.

A scientific breakthrough!

It all unfolded when I stumbled into Madewell, truth be told, in search of a denim mini. Out of nowhere, I spotted a super chic, faded black version almost to the ankle. It was on sale, so I said what the hey!, I’ll try it– more fabric for my buck!

That try-on sent shockwaves through the local atmosphere. Is Mimi…fully dressed? I loved how it slung low on my hips, and was at once sophisticated and laidback. Paired with a whisper of a tank, it was right in line with my style, albeit with just more cloth.

I purchased and sent a text to my cousins– “I bought a maxiskirt, the Earth is healing.” They all understood that this was a monumental occasion!

She made her debut on Thurs night at Soho House Nashville and was a HIT from jump! I had to stay true to myself, so paired Ms. Maxi with a sans-bra tight white knit, great hair/makeup and new cowboy-esque boots from Sausalito. The look was all Mimi, but I was…more comfortable. In the words of my hero Cher Horowitz, “Maybe because my party clothes are so binding!”

Some maxis I like! (We’re not quite at love yet!)

1. COS has tooooo many good ones to choose from. This vs. This, but need both!
2. Great dress style by Pistola— would look fab very much un-buttoned with a high ponytail and some silver Jennifer Fisher hoops!
3. The boucle on this Self-Portrait style is just too good. Where are all of my Chanels?!
4. I was not quite in a place to drop $500 on a new(to-me) silhouette, but Madewell’s leather version is, in fashion speak, “Very Good.” I would go 100% Mimi and pair it with a barely-there black crop top and just mounds of wavy hair and nude lipstick.
5. I would eschew the mini forever (sike!), if my new maxi life involved this TO DIE Missoni. An entire Principessa! Imagine with a perfect flat Giussepe sandal, a bronze-hued string bikini from Jade Swim and a boyfriend’s white shirt– obviously traipsing through Lago di Como.

Will I be going fullout and giving up my minis? Heavens no! Is this a great reminder of never saying never when it comes to style? Heavens yes! Xx
