footsie.

Breaking News— there is a category I love even more than the traditional selfie. Shocking, I know!

The newly trademarked Footsie™️. That moment when the bag, shoe and pant are really sealing the look and you just have to capture all of that hard styling work.

I have been taking these shots for years, but decided we needed an entire post dedicated to them! Kinda like the “what’s in my bag” post from last spring– absolutely no one asked for it, but absolutely everyone is getting it :) Some of my favorite Foot x Selfie combos from the past few months.

  • From last May– some of my best platforms juxtaposed with hand-me-down K-Mart denim and my 18th birthday Coach bag. The outing was not fun (post break-up meltdown) but the look was pretty dang good. I could probably make a consignment mint on this babydoll Coach.
  • My Chanel ladybugs first outing + an ultra summery Marni picnic tote. They are so diametrically opposed, but were purchased during the same NYC trip, so are family by default!
  • I made a very questionable decision to pack these checkered Vans for an April NYC trip, and inevitably ended up in Blooms @ 59th St, emergency purchasing real shoes. “No, I’m wearing them out of the store, but thank you!” Two other highlights from this shot– I am obsessed with this tomato-red update to my tried-true Longchamp giant Le Pliage. Even the Longchamp associate was impressed with the matte white MIMI embossing. Also featured is my beloved vintage fur in a perfect, chocolate brown. Like the shoes, it was purchased in a travel frenzy two years ago, but has been faithfully by my side since!
  • At least I waited one bullet point to include more Chanel! I was waiting to take food to a friend with a new baby and just had to capture my “meeting the new angel” look. Babies love miniskirts, trust me. Three of my most never-fail pieces: vintage Chanel ballerinas I routinely mistake for sneakers (Them– “Amelia, we are luxury items…”), a button-front minidress in the stiffest khaki that works for all occasions, and my angel of an oversized denim jacket from the famed Armstrong’s in Edinburgh.
  • More denim and the Marni again, but the star of this Footsie is my delicious, lavender velvet YSL mule that puts the stiletto in…stiletto. They were born in London’s Chelsea neighborhood, and were purchased at a rare moment when the dollar was showing the pound it meant business. That moment was quite fleeting! The heel is literally a stick and requires my most engrained Club Girl x 2010 skills, but they are a fucking show-stealer. Wrapping up the look is a snatch of pink/orange lace, featured in Lace Face a few months ago. We were halfway through dinner when my girlfriend shrieked “Are you wearing lingerie?!??!?!” Yes, Anna, yes I am, indeed!
  • I know you are jonesing for a true work look– jonesing when no one asked for this bizarre topic, but alas! Last Feb, I was gearing up for a donor-hosted cocktail hour, so needed to look non MPG, but also not like a waiter. I opted for a COS strapless maxidress in super chic black crepe. Such a wallflower, amirite? I love this shot because it captures the swingy stylishness of the dress, but truly highlights the accessories– my mini-ish Le Pliage in toffee brown paired with my babydoll of a lady bag via Etsy, good outerwear and my J.Crew Stevie boots in go with everything calfhair. I duplicated that look 8 months later for another NYC work event when I needed to not be the main event. SN: I was recently advised that stating “I am not the main character of this event.” is very big main character vibes. iyamwhatiyam!
  • Just a few items in this shot, but the star is the ruby-red 90’s mule lovingly gifted from my aunt Andrea who passed away almost two years ago. She knew my style almost better than I did, and my closet is still brimming with some of her sweetest hand-me-downs. Andy was a theater goddess and one of the most beautiful women to walk planet earth. She was also the greatest home cook I’ve ever known, and taught me every single thing I know about the kitchen– knife skills, timing, seasoning, risk-taking and the simple joy of nailing a recipe. Barely pictured over some chopped off J.Crew denim is Andy’s little sister’s black satin bustier top that I wear monthly. My aunt Alicia also has an eye for Amelia. When I talk incessantly about my arsenal of family clothes, this very moment of typing and wiping away tears of equal grief and gratitude is what I am trying to convey.
  • What would I be without my Juicy Couture? The fact that I talk about JC and Chanel in equal measure is the embodiment of who I am! Post-workout and the jewels and color palette were vibing– JC socks that I bought in their Pasadena store 15 years ago when that was all I could afford, David Yurman jewelry that is just as old, my beloved Notre Dame watch that is never set correctly, my grandmother’s wedding band and some tie-dye sweat shorts from the boy’s department. I could’ve posted just this one shot and completely encapsulated my personal style. I have been this girl (also that girl) for decades, and I just make tweaks here and there, but never a hard reset!

I loooooved this post, and hope I have inspired you to look from a different perspective. Up, down and round and round– I promise there is something for you everywhere. Xx
