zoe for spring.

I told one of my best friends earlier this week– “I am preparing for my hot girl spring, and nothing else currently matters.” Spring 2024 was a slow-roll shit show, and although we are living in a fast-roll geo-political shit show, I have decided to focus only on what I can control. And at this very moment, that includes being a hot person in the spring season!

Guiding this hero’s journey is the year-round, hot girl high priestess Zoe Kravitz. Dare I say she looks even better in her breakup season? She’s in that special moment when you have more time for yourself than you’ve had in months and years, are boldly unbothered about talking to/texting someone all the time and can wake up almost daily with a shimmer of expectation for something new.

Well, I’ll have what she’s having (minus the actual breakup, I’m all good on those!) because her recent pap, editorial and red carpet looks have been divine. A few of my favorites below and how I’m recreating them for April, May and early June!

So, I was going to do a whole post around this sherbet and lace look that obviously involved a few days in pure Cali sunshine– look at that glow! But we’ve pivoted to focusing on Zoe’s complete body of work. We know I love a sheer-ish lace moment, and the juxtaposition of her gorgeous face, tiny tatts and girly silhouette are really working for me. The high-low looks modern, not mid-aughts and I love grounding all that candy coloring with a stern, black pump. I would wear something like this, this or this for a May girls’ dinner or sexy date night. If I was working with a more famous person budget, this ALC number would be my interpretation! The final touch would be a pop of my favorite coral cream blush by Rare Beauty. Oh, and that bare neck is a masterclass in editing!

What I love the most about this Bodega Sporty Spice look is the cheekiness of the short-shorts with the sleek stiletto. The mounds of candy in the background also don’t hurt! It’s offering modern S3 SATC, when Carrie was cheating on Aidan with Big and running around town sans pants or any dignity. I talked a while ago about the resurgence of the humble short, and this edit from Zoe’s Elle cover story confirms my theory. A closer inspection shows that she is wearing a body/swimsuit under the shorts, so I am going to recreate this look for one of June’s many pool to street moments. First, these Free People shorts, and I guess I would finally cave and buy Hunza G or Norma Kamali’s ultra-sexy Marisa. I would save a ton of $$ by thrifting the windbreaker here, and would be evermore practical with a down-to-earth kitten heel. I am digging these from Studio Amelia, but am absolutely obsessed with this clear jelly mule from Veronica Beard. I saw it in-store with a girlfriend and she was like “that is an absolute Amelia shoe.” Zoe’s makeup is the perfect kiss of color on cheeks and eyes, and again we have very minimal jewelry. I would leave my stacks at home, and do a wash of Jones Road Miracle Balm in Tawny or Miami Beach.

At first glance, one would assume ZK’s nipples are the star of the show, but a second look tells another story. Same girl, same! I adore this second satin + lace ensemble but what really gets me are the accessories. First, we love a wispy updo and great drop earrings, and Zoe is wearing the best of the best from the one and only Jessica McCormack! She is the brand ambassador, so ofc that’s her major jewelry moment. I have loved Jessica via IG for years. Her mastery of diamonds and other rare gems is mind-boggling, and her dedication to design and the fine details perhaps has no modern equivalent. My girls and I had the chance to fun around in her Sloane Street atelier last fall, and it was a top-tier experience. Shout out to sales associate Nat who is so darling and borderline very hot with his whole 6’3″ and man bun aesthetic! The faux fur draped off the shoulders is a great complement to the disco-girl YSL accessories– perfect strappy, gold sandals and a chainmail bag to rule them all. I’m so overwhelmed by this look, I’m not sure I can recreate it without Zoe’s full budget! You simply can’t dupe perfection!

Not a spring look per se, but I am currently typing from a rainy 50-degree day, so we may be in for one more cold fake-out this season. I did a number on the sandals + tights look this winter, even when it made zero sense for Manhattan in January. Well, Zoe and I were of one accord because she also rocked a great, winter sandal look in NYC earlier this year. I would update the ensemble for April with a classic trench in lightweight khaki, and a pop of blue or red via a sweater over the shoulders. I ❤️ Nadaam for affordable cashmere. How fun would it be to highlight the tights + sandals combo via culottes? I have vintage leather cargos that come out at the most opportune (read: random) moments! How about a wisp of a white tank tucked into the short paired with this sandal for a save and this for a splurge? These have been my most reliable tights, although they’re not as sheer as I would like! Beauty plot twist– a matte red lip via MAC’s incomparable Ruby Woo.

Closing out with an absolutely perfect moment from her Elle March cover story. I mean, maybe Zoe and I should just be best friends, because I have been speaking to the calming chaos of NYC for years. “I want horns and people screaming.” An entire bar!

I am feeling wayyyy more prepared to conquer my spring x hot girl goals thanks to this fun exercise. Thank you, Miss. Kravitz! Who is your muse for the upcoming season? Xx
