I got all on my high horse about maintaining a regular writing schedule– and a few months later, we’re completely off course!
Well, I’m back, y’all (second time I’ve declared that in so many posts, so…)
- Less being way more— I wore a most pared down look to a weeknight dinner and felt so comfy and covered- a new, white pointelle top by Cou Cou over my favorite Anine Bing cream bralette paired with high-waisted, white trousers and the oldest BR brown leather sandals on earth. I grabbed my pebble grey top-handle bag, loads of blush and a single gold watch and hit the door. We know how much I love making a fashion scene at dinner, but it was a pleasant surprise to focus more on cocktails and conversation vs. statement pieces!
- Thames Street Oyster House in Baltimore– During a recent family excursion from DC —> Baltimore, we had an absolutely lovely lunch at this Fell’s Point staple. By the time I had doused 3 gorgeous shrimp cocktail in cocktail sauce + horseradish, I tucked into one of the most brilliant lobster rolls I’ve ever had with a perfect glass of Muscadet. The butter was buttered. Thames excels not only in fabulous stateside fish/chips and its raw bar offerings, but most importantly by offering a level of service that post-pandemic seems simply Jurassic-era.
- DoubleWide— I am very sorry if you have had enough of me proselytizing about the power of Slvrlakes, but oh well. During Shopbop’s x25 off sale event, I took a bet on the mondo-hemmed Taylor jeans that ended up totaling < $75. They have that divine raw-waistband the girls at Slvr do so well, perfectly executed pleats and JNCO-level widelegs. It was love at first try-on…and I proceeded to wear them at least once daily for the next 4 days! I paired them with everything from my go-to Carhartt white tee, a multi-stripe woven from The Shirt to tie-dye mesh via NKC. I cannot wait to pair them with the above pointelle and great platform clompers a la this style. Slim Gal, Big Jeans.
- Now this one is pretty left-field, but I have been visiting the carwash at least twice a week. My parents are obsessed and have two unlimited memberships (don’t ask), and the birds have been on a car-shitting spree, so regular trips have become a necessity. I am treating each wash as a mini ASMR, meditative moment…because I’m me, and it is now one of my favorite 3 minute decompression tricks. The key is to put your phone down and crank up the music and just surrender until the little green “drive” light comes on. This week’s soundtrack was Beastie Boys and it really delivered.
- Latin Mafia— I’m not even sure how I landed on this absolute VIBES trio of brothers hailing from Mexico City, but I have gone off the deep end into their catalog. Led by twin brothers Milton and Emilio, the vocals are immaculate and surprisingly romantic. There was one moment last weekend when the bridge of “Patadas de Ahogado” was so lush, it gave me a visceral feeling of falling in love for the first time. It was completely insignificant that every lyric was in Spanish and I am not fluent. Again, absolute vibes. Other certified bangers are “Julietota,” “pero me estoy acabando” and “No digas nada.”
- Bittersweet— We’ve talked about my digestion issues, so no need to delve into the details again. I was having some late night tummy problems a few weeks ago and somehow remembered two things a) bitters are digestion aids b) I had recently ordered said bitters. Though they were more drinking bitters vs. the typical digestive kind, I thought what the hey? I gave it a shot, and it was a game-changer! My stomach issues settled down almost immediately, and the rhubarb and cherry flavors tasted like a trip to Sonic! Get your own here.
All right, folks, that’s about it for this week. I promise to be back sooner rather than later. I miss these mini-reflections on what is actually working for me (little joys) vs. what is not (the general global scene) Xx
