Boots With a Fur

OMGGGG Bella looked perfect in Aspen in leggy black with Uggs, fur and a perfectly-placed crimson scarf! I was immediately transported to an unlikely happy place– South Bend, IN as an unhinged undergrad, darting around campus in “black stretchies” and Uggs…and my beloved tan bebe puffer that was lined in rabbit fur! Do you see why Bella’s look has me awash in nostalgia?

We have entered the first phase of winter, with the horrid, chronic possibility of single-digit temps, dripping faucets, and cars cosplaying as frozen blocks of ice. Can you tell I’m more than a little traumatized by those aforementioned Midwest winters? Therefore, we have plenty of time to recreate this very, very good winter look!

First, let’s talk the fur– whether it’s faux or real, vintage or new, just wear whatever you want. The world is literally crumbling hour by hour, so if you think I’m about to argue with PETA, you are sadly mistaken! We know I am a proud ambassador of The Frankie Shop and the Hope faux fur is a delight! Dyinggg for this version from Simon Miller. For ready-to-wear real fur, Pologeorgis is my absolute go-to. If you’re in the NYC/Greenwich area, go immediately to their annual winter sample sale happening right now. Last January, I bought a fox fur vest in between meetings and was embarrassingly busted by one of my donors. “What’s that? What’d you buy from Pologeorgis?” Ummm….pencils?! Nevertheless, I persisted and my little vest has become a winter wardrobe staple. And look at this beauty! Vintage is the best for real fur, especially if it is still in perfect condition. It’s luxurious without being precious. I throw on my vintage fur for grocery runs, coffee sits, neighborhood walks, casual lunches, absolutely WHATEVER! If you find yourself in UK/Europe, hunt for a vintage fur like your life depends on it! My current fave vintage shops– Armstrong’s (EDI); Sign of the Times, Loop Generation, Consigned Sealed Delivered (London); Blue Suede Vintage and Flashback (Memphis).

Well, that section was quite a bit longer than I expected, but in the words of Kelly Bensimon, “I’ve always been a great fur wearer.”

Ok, quicker take on the leggings– save, splurge, insanity and my hoodie recommendation. Choose your own adventure!

Though I am delighted that Uggs are back in vogue, TBQHWY (to be quite honest wit ya), I have never left their side! As much as I love a classic tall, what I truly adore is a spiced up style like this, this and this.

Let’s bring it on home with the accessories– Bella’s exact scarf style is from big sister’s widely acclaimed Guest in Residence and is sold out in every colorway! I am obsessed with this cashmere babydoll from Kujten and Etsy is brimming with styles like this adorable striped version. I mean, the only way to compete with an iconic cherry-red Chanel flap is to get the updated Celine luggage. This flat Stanley style with that irreverent (read horny) smiley zipper is sendingggg me! I would advise getting a baseball hat for $10 on your next airport visit and just throw it on without overthinking it!

Oh what fun, right?! I’m sure you have most of these items in your closet already– well, not that TDF Celine, but everything else. Play around with colors, silhouettes & textures and let me know what you come up with! Xx
