Newsflash— I have been throwing that shit on, baby! Outfits on outfits on outfits.

Forget 2016, this winter is giving Big 2019 Energy, a year we were really and truly out in those streeets! Aside from the imminent deep dive into utter pandemic chaos, 2019 is a year to exalt. I get it, 2016 works more for math, but far less for actual vibes.

So, what have I been wearing the past few months? Let’s talk about it!

NOV For an events-heavy weekend in Nashville, I let my new Tory Burch mesh babes steal the show. I paired them with black peplum and oversized vintage Levi’s for a casual office day, then took it up a notch with a brown corduroy mini dress for an evening event. The hefty gold hardware does all the heavy lifting and the mesh is just cool girl enough to let people know you mean business! I finished the weekend off with split-hem leggings and an oversized chore jacket via Rebecca Taylor purchased years ago. The lesson: pack one standout shoe and let that girl shine!

DEC I don’t do winter white often because Black is my heart’s true love 🖤 BUT I broke my own rules for two holiday looks that I simply adored! The first was my slightly chaotic work holiday dinner ‘fit, complete with a potentially sheer vintage slip skirt and a confirmed sheer lace turtleneck (I have been cautioned against using turtleneck as its descriptor but here we are, lol). I topped it with my favorite winter wear combo— vintage leather + fox fur. Sleek hair and minimal makeup allowed the fashion to really shine. I will admit the overall look was lost on the somewhat sleepy Nashville restaurant, but I will be duplicating for a dinner next week. Second, was a total hodgepodge of then/now hero items. As is the case wayyy too often, I centered this holiday gossip cocktails look around my lace Bebe halter. The lace Bebe halter— I am like 21+ years old, please let me rest! Me— absolutely not an option, you’re booked for Florida in March! I paired it with Gap barrel jeans purchased for a steal, my huge denim jacket and leopard booties standing in as an orthopedic boot (long story). Unlike Nashville, the Memphis crowd totally caught the vibe, and I felt so sexy and funny and flirty and good!

After a Christmas/Christmas Eve of dressing normally for my mama and Baby Jesus, I was ready to let it rip for our Cousins’ Secret Santa dinner. Match my freak, babe! I knew I couldn’t go full-tilt since I would be with my lovingly judgmental brother-in-law, cousin and other cousin’s husband, so I went for covered options that were still mostly naked! The Mimi math is mathing! Enter the most perfect sheer skirt via our summer storm of The Frankie Shop + my beloved butterscotch “cardigan” from Jigsaw. The skirt billows to the ankle in limoncello tulle and starts the peep show around mid thigh. It’s so demure until it’s not, which is my entire MO! The sweater (I’ve also been scolded for using that term) is a little more in your face as it is a true showcase for the nipple. The sleeves hit past the wrist but the front highlights snatches of skin from clavicle to navel. The combination of the two is an assault on the senses— are we naked or are we clothed? We’re both! We’re everything! I really took it to the limit with my classic Chanel pumps and my Clirkin. Are we a lady in the streets or a freak in the bed?! We’re BOTH!

JAN For my glorious NYC trip last week, I broke in three new VIPs— my Ralph Lauren camel overcoat, my latest Tommy girl and some really great black boots! The look that brought it all together involved my infamous sheer shorts (What is the business need for them?! Ummm, infinite ROI!) I recognize I can only go near bottomless in NYC or London, and I was meeting two of my best girlies, so it was sheer shorts or bust. As I dreamt of my first Temple Bar margarita, I considered how to best assemble it all. Similarly with my lace leggings, I went masculine on top with an oversized marled-grey sweater and my smattering of necklaces. Black tights offset the sheerness of the shorts, and high black boots really brought it home. By the time I slipped on my coat, rainbow fur scarf and my beloved Tommy (in the limited edition playing cards motif), I was giddy. Babydoll, you did it! You suspended time and space and went full 2019!

Against all odds, I went to California mere moments before the latest storm of a generation hit half the country. I was attending a conference for fellow women in fundraising and decided I would dress normally for…the first time since Christmas ☺️. The Chloe craze from winter/spring 2024 has really gotten under my skin, so I am forever on the lookout for ways to channel Sienna Miller ca. this moment. I was doing a mini closet purge when I stumbled on this blush pink tiered maxi dress that has not been on my radar in at least 4 years. It was hovering over the “to donote” pile when a thought popped into my mind— why not go full Chloe dupe with a brown belt and boots? I put together a few options and sent pics to Addie, who responded, “Yes, and only styled this way!” Two weeks later, I descended on San Diego like it was Paris Fashion Week. (Author’s note— it was not!) I added some Amelia flair to not fully lose the plot via my leather jacket, obnoxious yellow Faux-yard bag and completely incongruent Izipizi sunnies. It was the “crossing the aisle” of style— hitting many constituencies at once!

Other things I’m loving:

  • My $30 black bubble skirt from the Ref sale. I recently wore for a work event + Soho House date combo, and it was perfect.
  • I scored the LOML ultra thin merino-wool turtleneck for half off in a creamy baby pink during COS’ sale.
  • I did it again— purchased vintage leather that I don’t need, but also don’t not need! Ya know? I popped into the Reformation vintage shop after a downtown work meeting and slipped into the chicest skirt in Chevron-striped black leather and suede. It was so overpriced but I cannot wait to wear this baby everywhere!
  • My sweet bro-in-law shares my white-collar love of all things Carhartt, and gifted me with the most epic chore jacket for Christmas. I legit screamed when I opened the box! It has the most perfect slouch with pockets all over the place in a hazy sunset pink hue. My new vintage mini + Chanel tweeds = Watch out, world!
  • Soft touch—wind chills are talking about “feels like 9,” so I am drowning myself in cashmere and fur. Even one piece can steady you against an apocalyptic polar vortex. Also purchased during my COS visit, cheery red cashmere mittens.
  • Loving chunky Ralph knits in tomato hues. We talked about this a bit ago, but if you have not felt compelled to be Polo’d down to your boxer briefs, please join me here. The recent Men’s Polo/Purple Label show in Milan was a fucking master class on pro styling, intentional dressing and just being unabashedly HOT. By the time Tyson Beckford closed the show, I was on supplemental oxygen.
  • Soundtrack— the Latin Mafia obsession continues; lots of Bieber, new and old; Drake reminding me that he is the king of petty revenge and I LOVE it; I was listening to Tears for Fears pre-Marty Supreme but “Head Over Heels” is now on repeat; Kali Uchis “Cry About it” has me in a chokehold; watching Maxwell’s Tiny Desk threw me all the way back to the most perfect MTV Unplugged of all time; NYC’s Liim has me feeling very very pre peak!

What’s everyone wearing? What are we doing? Where are we going? Xx
