2009 Emmy Awards- Best Dressed and Hot Mess

As you can tell from my back-to-back Emmys posts, I kinda have thing for the tube awards. They’re fun, they’re quick and they reward the people who truly know how to entertain us! Butttt unlike the series and actors going for the gold, the gowns this year were just so… so-so. Ya know me, the consummate fashionista, so I scrounged together a little something. We’ll start with the Best Dressed and move to those who were a pure Hot Mess!

  1. Blake Lively shows some SerenaStyleSkin in ravishing red Versace. Lorraine Schwartz baubles and Loubs complete the look. Van der WOW!
  2. I have loved Christina Applegate since we weren’t allowed to “Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead,” so it should come as no surprise she is one of my Emmy’s faves. The rich azure tone of her Basil Soda gown is perfect for a Fall awards show, while the lace cut-out is a little Kelly Bundy sexy. Lorraine Schwartz and Coomi jewels in diamonds and sapphires add the finishing touches!
  3. As we now from the Showy Chloe post, I have a thing for Ms. Sevigny! She looks so chic in her Mizrahi one-shoulder, polka-dot gown, taking trends straight from the runways of NY Fashion week. The game-changer for me is the Chloe-cool gold brooch pinned at her side. It brings the look to a level of HighEnd-ness this Monday’s Muse alum is known for. Love the Sevigny signature red lip.
  4. I love Mila Kunis’ slightly avant garde look from Monique Lhuillier because unlike many of her fellow starlets, she took a chance with color, shape and overall essence. The burgandy is beautiful and the platforms give the whole thing some edge. Keep up the good work, Jackie!
  5. Though her hair was anything but Betty Draper-polished, I absolutely adore January Jones’ pale pink Versace gown. Its intricate structure is balanced by delicate glass beading. Neil Lane and Choo finished the look.
  6. Mary-Louise Parker was anything but stoned when she chose this cheeky Zac Posen frock. The short hemline and varying shades of purple made her look twenty years younger. And the glitzy Loubs upped the glam factor. Her curly tendrils escaping from an updo were perfectly messy. Love. This. Look.

Other notable looks: A very pregnant Heidi Klum in glittery Marchesa; MemphisGal Ginnifer Goodwin looking fantastically fuchsia in YSL; Sandra Oh in 14k Marchesa gown; former LipstickLady Lindsay Price looking royal in purple J.Mendel.

  1. Love Monique Lhuillier and Drew, but this pink feather-duster look ain’t it!
  2. Kim K. I absolutely adore your style (normally), but this white Studio54, J.Lo during the Bennifer years gown with slicked-back hair and too-casual hoops are doing nothing for you! Back to the drawing board.
  3. Jennifer Love Hewitt, it is a minor miracle that I have even brought myself to mention you, but after watching in “What year is it?” horror as you presented in 2009, looking totally 1999, I  couldn’t keep quiet. The color, the glitter, the Rapunzel hair look completely out-of-date. Newsflash- Party of Five is OVER, Bailey&Sarah are no more!
  4. Hayden Patenniere, you are the TeenQueen of aging yourself at awards shows. I love J.Mendel, but you are too small and too not 55 for this matronly dress. And I swear that diamond choker will be the fashion death of me. Let your hair down, darlin’! Put on some leopard print and…I don’t know, enjoy your 20s!
  5. Padma, Padma, Padma- you are one of my favorite faces on television. But this eggplant fright with attached tomatoes on the vine is one concoction that is anything but Top Chef worthy. Please pack your knives, shoes, dress and go home!
  6. Rose Byrne, you’re new to the award show game, so I’ll let you in on a little secret- it’s nothing like senior prom. So, DON’T wear glittery frothiness worthy of a cheesy “Moment Like This” formal dance. And you should sue whoever did that “Sun-In” haircolor. It is NOT it!

Ok, HighEnders, I would loooove to hear yall’s picks for the Emmys’ Elite. Until next time!
