To be fair to myself, it has been at least months since my last Q&A style post! This is a good one that I found via Jennifer Fisher– also one of my all-time lifestyle inspirations.
Style File
Daily Uniform—On a normal day, all black workout gear. Most mornings, I have a yoga/strength/pilates class and will walk or spin in the evening. When I’m getting dressed, it’s great denim by Slvrlake, a close-fit knit and my leather jacket or a fur vest and Chanel flats.
Jewelry Stack— I will love my David Yurman pieces until I D-I-E. I have found a way to repurpose them in a way that looks evolved from the college girl cable days. I also rotate a handful of JF hoops and I have started a great cz tennis necklace collection. The key is to make it look unintentionally fabulous.
Vintage Treasure—There aren’t enough words to express my love for vintage. Every single category of my life is rife with consignment, hand-me-downs and family heirlooms. I recently took inventory of my leather/suede collection and couldn’t believe my own fortune. Take a moment to search out something that has been pre-loved vs. something on the internet.
In Bed— PJ gang gang gang! I have a monster pajama collection. Based on my “racy” daytime style, people are always floored to learn that I am a proper pj person. Soma is a sleeper hit (lolz), and they carry phenomenal nightgowns in their proprietary cooling fabric. My sister and mom swear by Katie Kime robes and nightshirts that you can monogram. We know how much I love my UK-procured nightgowns for the sheets and the streets. I also must sleep in socks because my feet are constant little ice blocks.
On Beauty
Secret Weapon— Moisturizer is that girl! As I’ve said before, I slather on Honest Beauty hydrogel 15 minutes before bed and just let it sink in. I’ve also been trying to be more regular with my gua sha routine because it simply works.
Hot Tools— I’m not too big on heat styling but do enjoy L’ange’s hairdryer brush. The key is to use heat as a last resort. My styling go-to’s are flexirods- they come in lots of sizes and I just haphazardly plop them all over my head (shocker!). If you see me driving with two flexis in the front, just mind your business!
Makeup Routine— Keep It Stupid Simple- I am a concealer, blush, brows and mascara girl! When your skincare routine is working, there’s no need to do much more. A new trick I use is to contour with a deep burgundy and blur it out with a brush.
For Pleasure
Reading— I am having the best time listening to John Grisham on audiobook. I started the Camino series right before the election (it brought zero comfort) and finished #2 on the flight from NYC. I was so gripped, I barely moved for 2 hours. Also in my queue- Gilded by Keren Eldad and Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
Watching— Accidental Mad Men re-watch. It is phenomenal! Also, I am finding non-TV related activities during Lent. I almost broke down and watched the local weather report, but stayed strong!
Inspired By— People who are doing their own thing and not getting mixed up in other people’s things. 2025 is the year of Boo doing Boo, and not worrying about you. **FYI we are all Boo
Listening To— Nourished by Time’s “Hell of Ride” has been on repeat since December. I am also very much digging Tate McRae’s new album. Long live the popstar girly!
At Home
The Unexpected— Mimi is a Grand Millenial to the max. People assume because of my style of dress (see above in pjs section), that my home is going to be all sleek and modern, but alas, it is more Bunny Williams than TriBeCa. I am a Southern girl first and foremost, so there is color, pounds of pillows, linens for days and so many family heirlooms. My home, affectionately called HT, is a century-old gem that has hosted so.many.parties. and grounds me every single day. I love the surprise of my Baby Boomer, white lady design style!
Recent Addition— I’m doing more purging than adding because I think we’re all sick of the endless consumption cycle scam.
On the Table— Some form of fresh-cut flowers or blooming branch or crisp, green potted plant. Plus, a great runner or tablecloth. Why not set your table year-round?
Aroma— Patchouli Over Everything, both metaphorically and actually. It has been my signature scent for decades. If you’re in Memphis and haven’t visited essential oils/bath & body mecca Maggie’s Pharm, what is you doing, baby?
Furry Friend— I’ve morphed out of a being a dog person because the world has become such a dog person. My sister and I grew up with the most gorgeous/insane cocker spaniel Jellybean Muffin Thompson, who lived for 14 years, so like who is topping that?
The Menu
Power Snack— How annoying is to to say an orange? I’m just not a chips person- wait, let me rephrase that psychotic statement. I would go to the ends of the earth for a Cape Cod kettle chip, but I work out way too much to be out here pounding chips. Ok, so I’ve ranted on the mighty crisp way more than the humble orange so let’s just call it a tie. I love them both, but if a Ruffle calls, I’m answering!
Family Night— My family is huge on celebrations, and as the “FaMIly ChEf,” I am somehow always roped into kitchen logistics. If there’s a function and I’m not buzzing around with platters and a kitchen towel draped on my shoulder, the apocalypse has come. As I’ve stated before, let’s hear it for the one-pan/pot meals. I made a run on enchiladas recently and will now be wrapping everything in a corn tortilla. More to come on that soon!
Takeout— Maciel’s in Memphis is my go-to. Their chicken tortilla soup could soothe the global political disaster, it is that good. Fresh ingredients that just never let me down!
Travel
In the Carry-On— About 20 tiny tops for going out in NYC! I discussed my strategy here, but I use packing cubes to make everything fit, and I am obsessed with my new bigger carry-on from Away.
Best Stay— The Fitzroy in London is my Baby Girl. It’s like being on the Titanic minus the tragic end. The service is always impeccable, and there are countless little fireplace nooks for pre-shopping day coffee or a post-dinner drink.
Always Pack— EVERYTHING! Hahaha- kidding (kinda). I always overpack underwear because on a really good trip, plans change on a dime and you’re adding 1-2 more activities to your daily diary. In an obstinate response to this one, I underpack toiletries when I’m traveling overseas because the UK/Canadian/EU pharmacy is an itinerary item in and of itself. My sister and I went to Montreal’s equivalent of Duane Reade no less than 4x over 5 days.
Pro Tip– Again, discussed in 2 Cities, 1 Girl, but always overdress for the flight. I will sometimes have on a jacket + a coat + a big scarf, no matter the season. Treat your seat as your bed and make that sucker! Please don’t bring an actual pillow on the plane but get this, this and that for a comfier flight.
Come on, y’all, answer a few for me in the comments! Happy Saturday Xx
